On Saturday, my collegue Amy Wang and I were honoured to represent Transparent Fish at the opening ceremony of China Doll's 2nd Bi-annual Conference. Guests included not only China Doll's NGO partners, but also their beneficiaries and families, who had made the long journey to Beijing to not only show their support, but also to make friends, learn new things and sightsee. Speakers at the ceremony included not only China Doll's founder, CCTV's Zhang Quanling and a representative from Jet Li's One Foundation, but also the mother of a child born with osperosis imperfecta, telling her heartbreaking story of her struggle as a single mother. At the end, a group of made-up china dolls came to the front of the stage to introduce themselves one by one, and sing a song for the audience, proving the talents they have to share with the world. It was wonderful to be a part of such an exciting and dynamic group of people, coming together for a single cause.
Perhaps the most exciting thing for us was the fact that everyone was talking about the need for transparency and accountability in the non-profit sector. It just goes to prove the undeniable importance of the work Transparent Fish is doing, as well as the great timing of our work.
